  • Moxifloxacin (trade names include Avelox, Mediflox, Zymox, Avalox, Actira, Izilox, Moxeza, Moxicip, Moxif, Octegra, Proflox, Vigamox) is a broad spectrum quinolone antibacterial medication from fluoroquinolones pharmacological group. This medicine is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of various kinds of infections such as complicated and uncomplicated skin, skin structure, soft tissue, eyes, intra-abdominal, respiratory tract infections. Indication include pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sinusitis, meningitis, conjunctivitis, endocarditis, prostatitis, tuberculosis, cellulitis, anthrax, plague, in veterinary medicine. The spectrum of action includes Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria: Bacillus anthracis, Enterobacter spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella spp., Moraxella catarrhalis, Mycobacterium spp., Mycoplasma genitalium, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae. It works by inhibiting enzymes necessary to separate bacterial DNA, thereby inhibiting cell replication.
